Late Rising
February 19th, 2008Like the song, I got up at 12 pm on Monday. But unlike the song, I did not start to work at one. In fact I frittered most of the day away. (I am just a person that needs to have a regular job or I unravel.)
The best kind of dinner is the kind where the kitchen is clean and my lunch is made for the next day before we actually eat. And I wanted to get a head start on the black bean tart for Tuesday’s dinner. The crust needs to be refrigerated for awhile, and it is just easier if I make it the day before. So at 4:30 or so I started rushing around the kitchen in a panic.
I was roasting butternut squash, which is unusual, and I was trying a new biscuit recipe, which also contributed to the chaos. But I got it all done. The baked chicken was good, one can’t go too wrong with frozen green beans, the squash was ok…but the biscuits were flatter than pancakes. And I knew I hadn’t forgotten to measure out the baking powder. Oh well, they were pretty good as long as I slathered plenty of rasberry preserves on top. I ate CJ’s biscuit as well. Flat and slightly doughy is just not up his alley.
I went running today before I started in on the black bean tart, a standard meal that has the added advantage of being popular in leftover form. The crust is supposed to bake individually for 25 minutes. I add the meat and bean filling later.
I took the crust out of the oven right on time. The color was right…but the whole thing was swollen and puffy like, well, biscuit dough. So that’s where I put the baking powder!
That’s a good one…however that which is born with a silver spoon still takes the cake….get it?
Oh yes, I get it all right!!
