Obesity in America

August 27th, 2007

Obesity is a private issue and we do not need Big Brother wagging his finger at us every time somebody wants to eat a doughnut.  If someone wants to be a little heavier because they enjoy eating food that tastes good, that’s a person’s personal right.

  1. Examples of things that are dangerous primarily to the one doing them, and thus illegal:

    Driving without a seat belt
    Prostitution
    Drugs
    Fireworks

  2. i don’t understand what this person is saying. How does Big Brother wag his finger at people for eating a donut?

((Is this about banning trans fat?))

  3. Basically some government types have caught on that obesity is a problem and wanted to do something about it…I forget what.

My assumption is that the Center for Consumer Freedom has a certain agenda…some sort of shadowy organization that spends time courting politicians…again, just an assumption on my part. But anyway, they don’t want government interfering.

This is a beautiful quote! Beautifully indicative of our society, etc. etc.

  4. I’m trying to think what they could do about it. I’ve heard of banning trans fat…it was interesting: the ban was done sooner in countries where there’s socialized medicine. (When money for health care is coming out of gov’t’s pocket, they will do what they can to reduce potential health problems)

I like how the name says “Consumer Freedom” when really they are probably working to have “Increased/Sustained Merchant Opportunity”

  5. I completely agree with and appreciate the humor in your last sentence!

I’m not sure what the government should do…but of course I’m much more interested in what I should do. Sitting around and waiting for the government to save me from my gluttonous tendencies is probably not a wise idea.

  6. I’m thinking there’s an indefined area inbetween “dangerous to self” and “dangerous to others”.
