Good Snack
June 17th, 2006Chunks of fresh papaya with cottage cheese…wow…
We had a papaya tree in Mexico and so I ate it frequently. It was ok. A Seventh Day Adventist missionary I knew there described papaya flavor as one that didn’t fit American tastes, and I have always thought of that as a really good description. And so I avoided fresh papaya for years.
I happened to taste it recently at a church dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Last week I noticed that Giant was selling big papayas, which I did not purchase because I had a hand-held basket and no room.
But I kept thinking about them. I finally gave in on the way home from class last Thursday.
Sorry, CJ, I didn’t save any for you.
I hope you didn’t put your papaya (paPAYa?) in a plastic bag.
I wonder if I’ve ever had it fresh. Certainly not fresh off the tree.
It was paper all the way, so don’t you worry none.
Papaya is one of the few safe fruits for me…I buy it in chunks, in passion fruit juice, in a can (Libby’s brand), and I LOVE it!! I’m sure it would be even better fresh, but I don’t expect to come across any in that form…what Wegman’s is passing off as papaya in the produce department worries me, and I’m not willing to try it for the price (4 for $5)…
