Organization

December 31st, 2005

Organization without accessibility is practically worthless.

I attempted to re-organize our linen/personal items/medicine closet today. There are a number of smaller items that have a tendency to get disorganized. I thought that a good solution would be a set of plastic drawers that I had purchased. I was very pleased with this idea.

The problem is that the closet door is not as wide as the closet itself. This meant that the drawer set had to be centered on the shelf if I wanted the drawers to open. However, the 4-inch space left on either side of the drawers was extremely difficult to reach, especially given the fact that I am nearly always in a hurry when I need something from that closet. Either way I had an access problem, and I was not at all pleased at that prospect.

I puzzled over this for nearly an hour. Finally I put everything back in almost exactly the same way.

I did use one of our (many, many) mugs in which to keep our 10 spare toothbrushes. Compact, convenient, organized….accessible.

One Response to “Organization”

  1. I am aware that the reader will no doubt ask himself the following two questions: 1) Why 10 toothbrushes? and 2) What will happen to the set of drawers now?

Normally 10 toothbrushes would be a sure sign of disorganization. This time, however, it has a lot more to do with unavoidable circumstances such as lost luggage.

The plastic set of drawers is the perfect size for storing cardstock and construction paper. I had intended to buy a set for the sewing room anyway.
